Carefree looks to crack down on
noisy motorcycles, traffic

The Town Council voted unanimously Tuesdayto beef up
punishment for first-time violators of
its controversial noise ordinance, which targetsdrivers who exceed an
85-decibel noise limit.
Offenders could soon walk away with a Class 1 misdemeanor, instead of
a civil citation,
when the changes take effect in early November. Violators also
could be fined as much as $2,500
in fines, receive as much as three years probation or
land in jail for up to 180 days.
Currently, a first-time offense carries a fine of up to $175,
according to the Carefree town code.
