Project Bike 2003 H-D Heritage Softail
One of the easiest ways to get horsepower is cubic inches. We
would start with boring out the cylinders and fitting a pair of
Keith Black 10:1 95 pistons which would also raise the compression.
Some 510 camshafts for some torque. A power commander III to get
the fuel to it and a competition baffle to help get it all out.
All the gaskets plus pistons, cams, power. Commander, and 14 hours
labor bring a total of $2285.29, under the budget. Too make sure
that everything is dialed in properly it should spend some time
on the dyno for custom mapping of the power commander, cost appx.

The
2003 EFI Heritage Softail has some good upgrades so far. Why don't
you try a Screamin Eagle Stage II kit?
The kit is around $960.00 and about a six hour install. Contact
Todd @ Riverside Choppers for further info. 602-547-8288
kurt,
here are a couple of ways to go with your bike . both will increase
throttle response and horsepower . As you know there is no substitute
for cubic inches so #2 would be a little better.
#2 the same as #1 with the addition of big bore cycl. and pistons
. cycl. 250.00 exchange , pistons rings and gaskets 165.00 . total
1438.75 . + labor . we have all parts instock no waiting

This
upgrade will give approximately 95 H.P. with a whopping 90 ft
lb of torque, exactly what you need for a ride with a side car
and pulling a trailer.|
First we would bore the cylinders out to 95" and throw a
set of Wiseco 95" piston and ring kit in there. Then we would
install an S&S 625G Cams, Jim's hydrosolid lifters,a set of
high lift valve springs, S&S Gear drive, S&S pushrods
and covers set, and HD High Flow air cleaner. For the fuel injection
we would suggest a Power Commander 3 and a dyno tune to achieve
all available power and fuel economy.
Here is the break down.
S&S Cams $350.00
Valve Springs $90.00
Lifters $235.00
S&S Gear Drive Set $185.00
S&S Pushrod and Cover Set $145.00
Wiseco Piston and Ring kit $250.00
HD High Flow Air Cleaner $130.00
Power Commander $310.00
James Top End Gasket Kit $58.00
Labor $275.00
Bore $80.00
Dyno Tune $250.00
To
get the most out of this upgrade, I suggest changing out your
current Vance & Hines 2 into 1 ProPipe and replacing it with
White Bros E Series 2 into 1 and matching that up with a Woods
Hi Flow filter kit. This kit will increase you air flow from 135
CFM to 340 CFM. Then we need to tune the output with a snuff cap.
Next
we need to use Wood cams and gears to to take advantage of the
improve airflow. Along with that we will use the torringting cam
bearing installation kit. To top it off we will need to increase
engine to 95" with 10.25 to 1 pistons. For a complete price
list please look below.

Heritage Softail-Performance Upgrade
Thanks
for telling me where and how you ride, most motors are built without
these facts in mind and the owners are disappointed when it's
done. The power either comes on only above 3,000 RPM for drag
racing or the power stops around 4,000 RPM. The one thing I see
a lot of is motors that are built with cams that have a lot of
duration and the powerband does not kick in until around 2,800
RPM. When you are on the freeway in 5th gear cruising and try
to grab some power you can't without downshifting; add a windshield,
bags and a passenger the bike feels really doggy.
The
best combination for all around power, torque and just fun riding
with a Twin Cam motor such as yours is as follow. 95" Cylinders
and pistons, flowed heads and milling the heads down .050",
Mackie 590 lift 248 duration gear driven cams, Time Saver pushrods
and a Power Commander 3R. You already have a great exhaust pipe,
although we usually cut the baffle shorter.
If
you would like I can put you in touch with a customer that we
did a similar motor for so you could get some feed back.
Total
cost including parts and labor is $2,560.00. Figure six days so
we can get the fist 50 miles on the motor to seat the rings and
fine tune the motor.
Thanks,
Nathan

I will publish the responses the 1st of Feb. 2003
Project; Upgrade a 2003 HD Heritage Softail
This objective, should you accept, is to provide your
recommendations of how to best upgrade a Harley-Davidson
Softail Heritage. Following you will find information
on the upgrade request and the bike that is to be upgraded.
This
is a great way to get your name in front of a large audience.
Currently I get from 5,000 to over 6,000 hits per day.
I know that this project will create interest, as a lot
of the people that I talk to would like to increase their
power. Now you have a forum to provide your technical
knowledge.
Please,
I need this information back by Jan. 27th. This will then
give me time to post the information on my website at
phoenixbikers.com.

Objective:
Upgrade a 2003 HD Heritage Softail
Kurt
would like your recommendations on how to best upgrade the
performance on his 2003 HD Heritage Softail. He has set aside
$2,500.00 for the project. Most of his riding is around town
and short trips to various destinations around Arizona. He
has not interest in high speed or racing, but would like more
response when he twists the grip.
Should
you respond to the request, please do so in writing. Please
include a list of the parts, kits, procedures and approximate
hours associated with the upgrade. Also include why you think
this is the best solution for this upgrade. If possible, your
best guess as to the actual increase.
I will send this request to all of the Harley Davidson Dealers
in the valley and all of the Custom Bike shops listed on Custom
Bikes page at phoenixbiker.com
After I get all of the responses, I will publish them on the
web at phoenixbikers.com. I assure you that no one will know
who responded or what the response was until it is published.
